What happened there

The Return of Men is a men's retreat and rite of passage guided by Martin Thomsen. This second edition was held at BioVilla in the Arrábida Natural Park, Portugal.

Breathwork and fire. Ice, the temazcal, and conversation with nothing hidden.

Eighteen men who arrived carrying their own weight, and set some of it down.

The programme stays unpublished, before and after. Not knowing is part of the work, and the men who come next deserve the same threshold.

What we can show you is what it left behind.

In their own words

Seven of the men gave these testimonials after the retreat, each in his own words. Nothing here was written for us.

"I went to Arun and Martin's retreat last year and went away with a lot of great tools, but I didn't keep to my daily commitments, and after a few months it fell away. Even before I had left, I said to them: because of the men that they are, I want to come back. This retreat blew my expectations out of the water. What I've come away with is an intention to be true to myself. There's a lot I want to do in my relationships with my wife, my daughter, my friends. But I realised it starts with myself."

Danny Benyammine (returned for his second year)

"I came with an open mind, looking to reconnect with myself. I had felt disconnected from others and from myself for a long time, and felt a void inside. I'm leaving with much, much more than I ever imagined. I feel like I'm feeling again. I felt this brotherhood with twenty guys who within days became brothers, and in each one of them I met a reflection of myself. The range and intensity of emotion I felt here is like nothing I have felt in ages, and I leave with peace in who I already am, empowered to face anything that comes my way, knowing I have a true, genuine brotherhood behind me."

Imre Borsanyi

"Inspiring, uplifting, mentally and physically challenging. It went way above my expectations. I left with less anxiety, an open view on life, and more trust in myself. The Temazcal made the biggest impact on me: my greatest fear was not being able to escape, and I had to face it and stay present. It made me realise that I can move through fear with love, and that my body is far stronger than my mind. Overcoming fear is one of the most powerful feelings I have ever experienced. When there is no ego, there is love."

Thys de Vries

"I came without expectations, knowing I wanted deeper connection with men who feel the same as I do. I leave this retreat with a heart full of strong moments. I saw men who suffer exactly the same as I do. We are all the same, and everyone carries their own luggage. So I really recommend to every man: open your luggage and look at what's there, because it's absolutely beautiful what comes out. I leave as a powerful man, full of strength, energy, an open heart and love. And I want to be, every day, the man I am right now."

Dario Sidler

"I felt the calling to come, and I'm very glad I took this decision. Anybody who is seeking more clarity in life can really benefit from this experience. The biggest takeaway is the people. I came across great individuals I connected with on different levels, and learned something about myself and about human nature. I'm coming back next year for sure."

Patryk Borkowski

"I came to the retreat at a point in my life where I was looking for a reset, to let go of things that had been hurting me for years, and for clarity on my path. Coming out of it, I've been able to let go of a lot of fear and emotional baggage that was holding me back. Arun and Martin combine so many traditions that it is dense but effective. I would highly recommend it to any man interested in a safe space to go deeper within himself, and I've recommended it to my friends and loved ones."

Remi Ducrocq

"I came to the Return of Men because I wanted to find myself. It was very intense days where I got a lot of beautiful insights, and I go home with a good feeling and a lot of new wisdom. Now my task is to integrate it into real life. I can really recommend doing this work with these men, with Martin and with Arun. I wish all of you the same journey as I have had."
